The silhouette of this artist is now looking after the Academy of Fine Arts.
Born in Namur in 1935, Evelyne Axell is still little known in her hometown. According to the mayor of Namur, Maxime Prévot,”It was necessary to do something so that Evelyne Axell was not known only to art lovers, but to all Namurans”!
It is now done thanks to this fresco of about ten meters high situated rue du Lombard, in front of the Academy of Fine Arts where she was a student.
This very colourful fresco was designed by Jean-François Octave, an artist from Brussels, and produced by Ania Zuber and Manuel Gonzalez Bustos, from various photographs, including one taken during Evelyne Axell’s first exhibition at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels in 1967.
The initiative was coordinated by the non-profit organisation Lieux-Communs and financed by the City of Namur and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
To see on the gable of 61 rue du Lombard in Namur.
